Thunder Bay Military Museum History Series: HMCS GRIFFON

TRANSCRIPT

In 1920 the Port Arthur Wrenette Corps was formed and provided an opportunity for young girls to engage in naval training, similar to that of their male Sea Cadet counterparts. The organization was formed of approximately thirty girls, dressed in blue and white uniforms, which met in the Port Arthur Collegiate with instructress Violet Burrows. It was not until 1950 that the nationwide Navy League Wrenette Corps was established for girls aged thirteen to eighteen.
