Thunder Bay Military Museum History Series: HMCS GRIFFON

TRANSCRIPT

HMCS GRIFFON, as a facility, received a number of weapons and pieces of equipment after demobilization of the Second World War. Twin 4.7 guns were placed on the drill deck, one of which now sits facing Algoma Street near the WWII memorial. A gun direction room was inside the drill deck with equipment for scanning Lake Superior on the roof, and a navigation room with RADAR was just off the quarterdeck. In the late 1940s a Fairy Swordfish, a British torpedo plane that operated from aircraft carriers during the war, was located where the flags currently stand across from the drill deck.
