Distinguishing uniforms were abandoned and a tri-service, light green replacement was issued. In 1965 the White Ensign was replaced with the new national flag. The RCN(R) became the Sea Reserve, Canadian Forces. Flags and badges, symbols of pride, history and tradition were striped from the services and the military suffered a tremendous, and lasting, loss of esprit de corps. Traditional ranks disappeared for the Navy and Air Force to be replaced with Army terms.
