On the School Benches

TRANSCRIPT

There was something special about the end of the cloister for the Ursulines. This hadn't happened yet when I was there, but I could see the difference once my daughter started school with the nuns. I had lost touch with the school over the years. Like everybody else, I had children. I rediscovered the CMI in 1969 when my daughter started first grade there. The cloister had only recently ended. But I could see that for the Ursulines, there were no half-measures. The nuns immediately adapted to the change in lifestyle. I recall hearing one of them say, 'The ones who want to wear the habit can just stay in the monastery.' This was pretty harsh in 1969 when the change was so new. As I said, there were no half-measures.
