In sixth grade, children make their profession of faith. The profession of faith isn't a sacrament as such, but it's an important step. The pupils undergo days of intensive preparation to make their profession of faith aloud. I used to think that twelve-year-old girls were too young for this step. I thought it would be better to wait until they reached the last year of secondary school, when they're more mature and have a better idea of what they want. But with time, I've come to understand that twelve-year-olds express what they feel at the age of twelve. The most important thing is not to expect a twelve-year-old to speak like an adult. When I understood that, I understood the whole value of the event.
