On the School Benches

TRANSCRIPT

In elementary school, we received sacraments like Holy Communion and Confirmation, and we celebrated special religious events like the profession of faith and the reception of the Bible. A lot of emphasis was placed on the sacraments. Before the celebrations, we had to practice in church. We learned how to walk solemnly down the aisles. We also had to practice singing and learn songs by heart. I remember the singing lessons with Sister Rita and Sister Céline. The ceremonies usually took place in the chapel. But in the last few years, they've been held in Sainte-Cécile Church or the cathedral because more and more people are taking part. I think all the students received the sacraments. I don't regret receiving them. But I and two other students weren't confirmed with the others. I couldn't be present the evening of Confirmation, so I was confirmed in my parish instead. Still, I had to attend the preparation sessions, and I had to acquire a copy of the little red book like everyone else.
