When it was time to do the dishes, a girl would fill a basin with water and bring it back to the table. Then, we'd wash the dishes together or individually. We passed each other the plates. Some washed, some dried and some took care of the plate of leftovers, which contained the food that hadn't been eaten. We had to eat everything, otherwise we got a scolding. It was very different from the cafeteria today.
