King Seaman - His Legacy Continues

This story relates to the Saxby Gale in October 1869, and the tale of several Minudie residents that they saw Amos and his horse Charlie riding along the dykes during the storm.Extract form the "The Old King is back": Amos "King" Seaman and his diaryPublic Archives of Nova Scotia Bulletin No. 23By Charles Bruce FergusonFive years after his death the Saxby Gale struck with all its fury. The dykes of the Elysian Fields broke and the whole marsh flooded. The night was black, the wind furious, and the tide roaring. Five men from Minudie went to the Marsh gate to see the state of affairs. In Seaman's lifetime they had been accustomed to seeing him and his old horse Charlie ride their rounds; they had had tremendous confidence in him, believing that he could do almost anything. Now, in a blazing flash of lightening, they saw the old King riding Charlie around the dykes just as he used to do. When they returned, they said: "It's going to be all right now; the old King is back."
