The Art of Wooden Boat Building - A Dying Skill - The Vokey Family

TRANSCRIPT

Excerpt of an interview completed with Henry Vokey around building a boat

Hazel: Oh. So after you sealed her what did you do?

Henry: After what?

Hazel: You sealed the boat, or made her tight.

Henry: Oh then the next thing you had to do was sand her over, plane off the seams, where one seam out was outside the other, sand her over. Before she was ready to paint.

Hazel: And then you paint her.

Henry: Then you paint her.

Hazel: And then she's ready to go in the water.

Henry: Then she's ready to go in the water.

Hazel: So then you launch her.

Henry: yeah.

Carrie: Putty in the seams.

Henry: Oh yeah that had to be done, the seams filled.
