A Community At Work - the Tatamagouche Creamery & Dairy Industry

Despite the decline of the dairy industry and the Creamery, the sense of community, fellowship and friendship has remained amongst the people of Tatamagouche and the surrounding area. Visitors and new residents quickly become involved in the community - it is not often that a place with such a small population can boast over 60 societies and organizations. Tatamagouche supports a hospital, high school, elementary school, library, post office, cultural centre, heritage centre, farmers' market, recreation centre with ice rink and fitness centre, Buddhist centre, conference centre offering courses of all kinds and, in 2010/11 a new performing arts centre.

Verdant in spring and summer, glorious in the fall and sparking with winter snow, to travel along the North Shore of Nova Scotia offers sweeping views of countryside and sea. Inland toward Wentworth, New Annan, Denmark, Balmoral and Middleton, the scenery is made up of meadows, mountains, forest and old farm properties. The occasional sheep, goats, horses, cattle, an abundance of deer, eagles and even the odd bear, lift the spirits and remind one of a bygone era, where survival depended on people working together.
