TRANSCRIPT

Mrs. Shirley (nee Campbell) Crossley

'I attended Kinghorn P.S. from 1934-36 when Walter Rolling was teacher, until he retired in June 1937.
I was a small girl, but I do remember him well. Toward the end of the school year (maybe in June): the year you were six years old, he would have you come on a Friday afternoon and sit at a small desk. You would have a slate and a slate pencil and you could draw. This was his way of letting you get use to school, so it wouldn't be so strange, since you'd be starting Grade 1 in the fall.
He seemed to be strict, but he liked fun and to tease the little girls. He had a large black lunch pail, and he would tell my younger sister that he was going to take our baby sister home in his lunch pail.
