They came for different reasons, but with a common objective.
Thousands of men were herded through what were called Manning Depots to receive their uniforms, haircuts, inoculations, and introductions to military discipline.
The change from civilian life was harsh for many young men. Suddenly their world consisted of marching, rifle drills, and frequent medical exams, all with a continuous lack of privacy.

Manning Depot was also a place full of new people and experiences. These young men spent their first days in this new world away from the comforts of home life.

The BCATP had a responsibility of training all types of required airforce personnel. In order to complete this task of training aircrew, groundcrew and the Women's Division, various types of training facilities were built across the country, each specifically focused on teaching an airforce trade.
