Grant McConachie was a natural flyer and by the 1940's his company Yukon Southern Air had regular mail flights into Dawson City. By 1941, his company had been bought out, and Grant was working with Canadian Pacific Airlines to establish a series of air fields to service the war time construction of the Alaska Highway. At age of 37, Grant became the president of the second largest airline in Canada, and spent the next decade building CPA into one of the world's major air carriers. By the time of his death in 1965, Canadian Pacific had a fleet of jet airliners serving routes that stretched across Canada around the world.
