In 1935 Ev Wasson purchased a Fairchild FC-2W2 from the Mayo-based Treadwell Yukon Company and moved to Carcross to establish Northern Airways Ltd with George Simmons. Although Wasson soon left N.A.L. to join the B.Y. Co. Air Division, Northern Airways had a long and colorful career through the 1930's and 1940's, until it ceased operations in 1950. While war time projects such as the Canol Pipeline and the Alaska Highway created boom times for Northern Airways, they also shifted the transportation hub from Carcross to Whitehorse. After sixteen years in the flying business, N.A.L. president George Simmons decided he would rather retire in Carcross than move to Whitehorse. In 1950 he sold the last of his airplanes, and relegated his colorful little airline to the history books.
