Despite Borgal's plans for the building, with Westfield closed it was impossible to go ahead on any refurbishment projects in the village. The Misener house continues to lay prey to the weather and time. In 1988, the building is photographed once more as the public rallies to reopen Westfield. In the short three years since the last photographs, the building has taken a turn for the worse. With boards on the windows and wall plaster on the floor, things look bleak for the Misener home.16

Public agitation finally sees Westfield Heritage Village reopenined in 1990. Finally, the restoration of the Misener house is able to begin. A new architect, Brian McKibbin, is brought on to draw up the plans needed to act. From his drawings the floorplan of the house is made clear.23
