1907, the highlight for the Town of Lanigan was the completion of the railway tracks connecting Strasbourg to Lanigan. On October 1907, the first train reached Lanigan from the south. The train consisted of a small engine and two cars of railway ties and two cars of steel. As the train came in every one was there to witness this momentous event.

There was a need for a Station, this being completed in 1908. The Station, with the arrival of the trains was the hub of activity for this early town of Lanigan.

Alfred Schiman writes: "When the train came into town, even if you had no reason to go otherwise, you would go to the station to see this big hissing, smoke belching locomotive pull into town. I guess they had some way of cutting their power, and they would let out some steam, and it would make sort of a hissing sound. Then the bell would be ringing. That was quite exciting."

The arrival of the train provided a means of transportation for passengers, mail and goods. Mail orders were made from the T Eaton Catalogue. The train delivered goods including everything from building material for houses, appliances, clothes, and most any thing else the pioneer needed. Farm produce was shipped by rail to buyers in Saskatoon or Regina. Most livestock to be sold was shipped to Winnipeg. Young chicks and other fowl could be ordered from hatcheries in Humboldt or Saskatoon and were shipped by train. Now these goods are transported by truck.
