The flour mill

The flour mill was built in 1762-1763 by François Maisonneuve son. It was a square building of stone brick, measuring 9.90 metres on the southern gable, and 9.77 metres on the northern gable. Its long, western roof measures 18.36 metres and 17.93 metres on the other side.

Originally, the mill operated by means of a large bucket wheel. Beginning in the 1880's, the mill was switched to turbines. Inside, the mill still has all the mechanisms necessary for production.

On the lowest floor there is the turbine room built out of cement by Magloire Légaré in 1923. In it, there are three horizontal turbines made of cast iron; two of the turbines were made by Leffel and the third, a smaller turbine, was made by Joseph Hale. The next level contains the gears.

The production floor of the millstone floor is comprised of three parts: the mill store occupies the northern part, where the main access to the mill is found. In the centre are two bolters (rotary sieves), one of which is older and the other was recently acquired, in 1999, from the Wakefield mill. Toward the back, which is on the southern side of the floor, there are two pairs of millstones: the pair on the west side comes from Quebec, and the other pair comes from France.

On the upper floor or the attic floor, there are the tops of the grain elevators and the hopper belonging to the operating mill. The dividing wall of the miller's house contains one of the trusses made from the original wood and dating back to the 18th Century. The truss is made of two rafters connected by a joist. The rest of this floor is used for storage space.this floor is used for storage space.
