Washing of floors, as well as windows when needed. For windows - a solution of water and vinegar was a cleaning agent and wiped with newspaper.

Floor Polisher

Floors were paste waxed and the heavy polisher was used to buff it into a high shine. Or the children would don their dad's old woolen socks and slide around until the sheen was achieved. There was in early times the use of milk to get the desirable shine.

Carpet Sweeper

If one had a carpet sweeper the small homemade rugs would be cleaned with it. The cost was- $4.65. In most cases these types of rugs would be brought outside and brushed vigorously with a corn broom or the use of a rug beater.

For more elaborate carpets one could have had a 'Newmaid Self-Generating' vacuum cleaner. By moving it back and forth it would generate suction - pulling up the dirt in to the bag. The original price is still on this item - $29.95
