Sydney Clark of Old Harry was the first fisherman to build a fibreglass boat on the Magdalen Islands. Sydney began fishing at the age of thirteen. He fished as a fisherman's helper with several different fishermen before he ran his father's boat for two years. Sydney's father, Gerald, convinced him to take a course on building fibreglass boats. Sydney went to North Sydney, Cape Breton in 1974 to take his course.
