Sir Eric Vansittart Bowater (1895-1962) was an industrialist who was born in London, England. In 1924 he became Managing Director of W.V. Bowater and Sons upon the death of his father. In 1927 he bought out his uncle's shares in the firm and became chairman. Bowater's aim was expansion, and he pursued this goal with the purchase of the International Power and Paper Company in Corner Brook, Newfoundland in 1938.
