Git 7ans EaglesThe Git 7ans clan today has two branches, Git 7ans and Maaman Git'anee. Storyteller Noah Mills said Labret Woman was born in Masset. When she left Masset, she set out to marry Great-Roaring-Surf. People told her she would not be able to so she rubbed a love potion on him and it worked.

Today the Git 7ans are a small lineage in Old Massett. The inauguration of Chief Gaalaa was one of the first recognized chieftainships to take place when the Haida cultural resurgence began in the 1970s.5

Steven Brown is the oldest man of the clan. He is an active fisherman, language teacher and musician.14
Many of the descendants of Selina Peratovich live in Alaska. Selina Peratovich did an outstanding job of teaching her family their culture. Her descendants today, like chilkat-weaver Evelyn Wylie, basket-weavers Holly Churchill and Lisa Telford and carver Donnie Varnell, are honouring an old tradition. |
