A Tradition of Education

The Ursuline Sisters have been dedicated to the education of girls in Trois-Rivières for over three hundred years. In 1697, the sisters opened the first girls' school in the region. During the centuries that followed, they founded a day school, boarding school, teacher training school and college on the land adjoining their monastery. The Ursulines also administered and taught in many of the city's public schools and founded teaching establishments in Grand-Mère and Shawinigan.

A Word from the Québec Mother Superior of the Ursuline Sisters of Trois-Rivières

The Ursulines have taught in Trois-Rivières for over three hundred years. Their mission is to "educate the whole person" by fostering the development of the intellectual, physical, emotional and social endowments of each student in a Christian context. The sisters endeavor to achieve this goal by developing aptitudes, imparting academic knowledge and, most importantly, instilling the values preached by their foundress, Saint Angela Merici. These values remain timely. They consist of attending to the needs of each individual in an atmosphere of unity, openness and respect. Mutual love was the foundation of Saint Angela's spiritual and educational ideas.

A Word from the Executive Director of the CMI

When I accepted a mandate to become executive director, I agreed to promote the values of the Ursuline Sisters by continuing to carry on their mission. This mission, astonishingly enough, is three hundred years old. It seems incredible that a teaching establishment in Québec has endured for three centuries. Few schools, I believe, can boast such a long, multifaceted history.

Executive Director of CMI from 1999 to today.
