The mill changed the town in many ways. Soon, every life was affected in one way or another. The mill became the largest employer in Restigouche County, if not in all of northern New Brunswick. People depended on it for more than jobs. It contributed to recreation, social life and more.

The presence of the mill also turned Dalhousie into a labour town. The unions became powerful and union wages meant that people had more buying power than those of other towns of similar size.

Today, the mill is still important, but modernization has reduced the workforce from around 1,400 to a mere 400. Even with new equipment, it's an aging mill subject to stiff competition from newer, larger and more efficient ones elsewhere.
