From the beginning, churches have been prominent parts of Dalhousie's municipal landscape. The earliest known picture of the town shows St. John's Presbyterian Church among the few recognizable structures.

Although that first Presbyterian church has long since vanished and no one is sure of exactly where it stood, its successors are well-known. The next one was destroyed by fire, but a very similar structure rose from the ashes and is still in use today.

The next church to be built was St.Mary's Anglican. It is still in use and is a treasure of the downtown area.

St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church, now better known by its French name, St. Jean Baptiste, was the first Catholic church in Dalhousie. The original wooden structure is gone, but the impressive Gothic stone church which replaced it is a prominent feature atop the ridge that is Dalhousie's backbone.
