The next three pictures were taken of a speedboat designed and built by Lewis Parsons at Glovertown in 1978. It was built to accommodate an outboard engine between thirty-five and forty-five horsepower. The boat is 18' 1" stem to stern, 6'2" midship, and 5'2" at the counter (stern).

The interesting feature of this boat is the modification in boat style. It was made to suit the change in lifestyle of the previous owner whose job removed him from the bay shores of his youth to the inland towns for work. The soothing custom of rowing around shore soaking up the ebbs and flows, gulls croaking, beachy birds water skimming amid the glint of sunlight on rippling water washing over sandy beaches bordering the landscape; had to be interrupted by the call to work. Time for all this had to be shortened - hence the outboard motor solution and boat design.

The boat: with sharp, flared bow; widening and rounding midship; tapering toward the counter; bottom flattening toward the stern; a substantial keel; allowed easy planing by an outboard and yet a set of paddles can easily turn it and maneuver it around rocks and shoals along shore. A cross between the speed boat and rowboat (punt) - A speed-row boat.

Boat building solutions like these were typical of the ingenuity of our people.

'Fab-Tech Industries Inc.' was established in 1980. President/Owner, Byron Collins, invented the Silver Dolphin line of fully welded aluminum boats. These boats range from seventeen to thirty-one feet in length and may be used for fishing, pleasure and commercial applications.

This fabrication company also produces processing equipment such as conveyer systems and complete processing lines for seafood, aquaculture and agriculture industries. Their market has grown and now includes Canada, US, Denmark and other countries.

Every boat is custom built in four to six weeks. In 2003 fifty boats were built in their facility. There are usually three boats being fabricated at any given time.
