One of the ongoing problems facing the CPR was the threat of snow slides and the difficulties in keeping the tracks free of snow during the winter months. Several snow sheds were built in Rogers Pass to try to protect the most vulnerable areas but they could not stop the slides entirely. Rotary snow ploughs were used to clear the tracks.
