The next stop on our journey is the City of Greater Sudbury. The Sudbury area has a long history of settlement and activity, though it wasn't established as a town until 1883, becoming a city in 1930. In 2001 several of the surrounding municipalities and unorganized townships were amalgamated with Sudbury to form the City of Greater Sudbury which is now the largest community in Northern Ontario with a population of over 150 000.

Although Sudbury began as one of the many small lumber camps along the Canada Pacific Railway, it is perhaps best known for its mining industry. Believed to be the remnants of a meteorite impact crater, the Sudbury Basin is rich in ores containing nickel and copper and other valuable elements giving Sudbury its nickname, "The Nickel City."
