The first plane to be seen over The Pas was a little Avro 504K bringing Frank J. Stanley, a fur buyer, home in October 1920. The townspeople had been warned of the arriving airplane - complete with pilot, mechanic, and passenger - and scanned the skies in anticipation of its arrival. The plane was greeted by a large crowd as it landed at a field behind The Pas Lumber Company. The trip had taken three days, with overnight stops at Swan River and Hudson Bay, SK. The journey would go down in history as the first chartered flight north of the 53rd parallel and the first Winnipeg to The Pas flight. Mr. Stanley told the local newspaper that "The object of the flight was to bring the North to the attention of the airmen, and to cause the possiblities of the use of these machines in the North to be demonstrated."

The first historic flight to The Pas in 1920 opened up the north to bush pilots. Planes hauled people and freight. Float planes and ski planes remedied the lack of landing strips in the north. The RCAF even used The Pas as a base for conducting an aerial photographic survey of the North after World War II.
