Settlers started to arrive and various forms of shelter were created. The Rural Municipality of North Norfolk formed in 1882 and the first council consisted of a Reeve and six Councillors. Seventy two rate payers were listed on the roll and generated $2100.00 with the first tax levy. The "Muir" log house was built in 1879 and is constructed of squared elm logs and features dove-tailed corners. It is one and a half stories and measures 14' X 16' with a wood shingled roof and a wooden eave trough. The family that occupied this log cabin consisted of 12 people-10 children and their parents. This log house is situated on the grounds of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum and can be visited during open season, May 12 to September 30.
