With the increase of settlers to the region, it became obvious that there was a need for services and supplies. In many communities the General Store sprang up and handled almost every imaginable item needed to survive on the prairies. Coats, coveralls, underwear, socks, shoes and yard goods were available as were hand tools, saddles, canned goods, candles, threads, sugar, molasses, vinegar, biscuits, suspenders, harness, patent medicine for man and animal and much more. The Livery Feed and Sale Building is located on the grounds of the Manitoba Agricultural Museum and illustrates the livery as it would have been in the early 1900's. Point of interest about the livery is the fact that there was always a team on stand by for the local clergyman and one for the physician. This meant that the livery was likely the first place to hear the new excitement in town. The city of Brandon, a little farther west had 23 liveries stables in 1886.

The Sidney Brick and Tile Company, in 1898, produced distinguished red coloured bricks that cost one cent each. Some of the buildings built by these bricks were the Eaton's Warehouse, Minto Armouries in Winnipeg and Regina City Hall. Also, many of the older buildings in Carberry and Brandon were constructed with these bricks.
