The exact date of the last passenger train is not known. It was in the early 1960's.There was a special passenger train that came through Lanigan on July 1, 1981 to celebrate CPR's 100 years of passenger service in Canada. The Railroad of today hauls Potash, container cars, grain, machinery, lumber, oil products and other freight.

With the coming of the rail line the Maintenance was done by workers riding jiggers. Story has it that the local doctor had the workers transport him to the next town with a jiggers. Now a closed in truck transports the workers from job to job. (Much warmer in the winter and much more comfortable in the summer heat.)

The station of today has been preserved as a Heritage Centre and is situated on the Yellow Head Highway.
