«The fact that there is only one dresser could create a terrific bottle neck backstage, but the Dugald women have developed a rapid-fire system for getting in and out of the old-fashioned back-fastening dresses. They line up with cadet-like precision, one behind the other, unbuttoning and hooking up the model directly ahead.»
('The Charm of Old Fashions' by Nan Shipley, November 1957)
Author Nan Shipley's description gives a good impression of the organised confusion that reigned backstage during a Fashion Review Show. Even if the dressing rooms were substandard - and often there wasn't room to swing the proverbial cat let alone a hoop skirt - review members always remark on how much fun it always was.
