The Millet Hardware Store, built by Morris and Taylor, on the west side of Main Street in 1915. It was situated halfway down Block 2, approximately where the Associate Clinic now has offices (2004). The business was run by Mr. Eastwood in 1921. It was sold to White and Orr in 1922 and E.J. Olesen was the manager until 1931 when J.E. Shepperd started in business there. He sold to Len Eckel in 1943. In January of 1946, W. Hildebrand bought the business and about 1950 it was purchased by Rheinie Pohl who owned it until the late 1960's. Following R. Pohl's ownership, it became a grocery store. In 1992, it became a daycare centre.

William (Bill) Thiel came to Canada from Germany in 1927. He worked on a farm at Stony Plain for a short while until he could afford to start his own business. A shoemaker by trade, he came to Millet in 1928 and he opened his first shoe and harness shop on the ground floor of Pinyon's Hall. In 1932, he purchased his own building that was formerly Gus Parker's butcher shop.
He and his wife, also from Germany, stayed in Millet until 1964 when they moved to Edmonton. They had four children: Walter, Henry, Margaret, and Ronald.
Mr. Thiel served as Mayor of Millet and as Millet's representative on the board of the Wetaskiwin School Division for a number of years.
This photo was taken August 25, 1937.
