Q - Was there a well there or did the water come from another system?

No, this was built over top of a well. Apparently what you did when you wanted to fill it they brought a steam engine up and there was a steam pump in it. They pumped the water up into a tank here and you know, the indicator would show full. Then when you wanted water you just pulled the spout down into the tender and there was a gate valve you opened to fill it up.

You can see that shop had 15 bays, you know for the steam engines and that's where the smoke stacks are. If you count them there are 15 there. This half would take bigger engines, the bays were longer.

This was an "Ash Pit" , that's where you dumped the fire out of the engines. This run across to here, well there was a trolley down in the pit there that used to come over to here, and that was a hoist there that used to lift the ashes up and dumped them into this car.
