At Tete Jaune, the natives transported many people across raging waters of the Fraser River. When the Overlanders arrived in Tete Jaune in 1862, the Shuswap fed the starving group. That same year the smallpox epidemic decimated B.C.'s native population and the Shuswap were no exception. In 1863 four families were living in Tete Jaune and 70 in 1906. When the railway came through, men found work as labourers and guides. In 1916, the remaining Texqokallt were moved to a reserve.
