As Provincial Secretary for New Brunswick, Samuel Leonard Tilley was a staunch supporter of the growing Confederation Movement. He attended the Charlottetown, Quebec and London Conferences and even suggested the name of our new nation, the Dominion of Canada. As a reward for his support for Confederation, he was given a Federal post in John A. Macdonald's first cabinet. He later served two terms as Lieutenant Governor of New Brunswick.
