By the 1940s many changes had occurred in the community. Cars became the dominant form of local transportation, all businesses and almost all homes had electricity and the Commonwealth Air Training Program airbase boosted the population and economy.

Although the use of the lake as a vacation destination had developed soon after the railroad had arrived in the community, The town started advertising themselves as a vacation and day trip destination from Winnipeg as the roads improved in the 1950s.
