Another of James Anderson's brothers, George, served in the Hudson's Bay Company. He was an apprentice clerk from 1840-45, in Quebec, Ungava, and the Esquimaux Bay district. He was promoted to clerk in 1845, but left the service in 1849. A private letter from Alexander Caulfield Anderson to George Simpson, dated 17 April 1849, referred to George's misconduct, apparently the "flagrant vice of intemperance." He later went to Australia, probably to mine gold or opals, near Tibooburra (which means "lots of rocks").
