The Newfoundland Railway was the only means of transportation through the interior of the country. There were branch lines of the railway which meant people could travel from one community to another and to the capital city of St. John's. This photo shows the train at the station in Carbonear. The Hawkers used this means of transportation to travel to and from St. John's and both Walter and Mortimer would have travelled across Newfoundland on the train.
