Photo taken around 1912 of the Mirror's Grand Trunk Pacific Railway yards and Roundhouse.

To the left is the Roundhouse, which had 6 bays for repairing the steam engines. In later years, 4 more bays were added.

In the middle is the turntable, where an engine was driven onto, and the turntable would rotate and direct the engine into one of the repair bays.

To the right of these yards was the town of Mirror.

First Grand Trunk Pacific Passenger Steam Train into Mirror
1912
Near Mirror, Alberta

21

This is supposed to be the first passenger steam train coming into Mirror, July 11, 1911.

On this photo is handwritten the date, July 7, however since the auction was on July 11th, this photo may have been incorrectly marked.

If this is the first passenger train, passengers were specifically coming in to attend the auctioning of lots for the new town of Mirror.

This was a huge event for both the West, and for the settlers in the Mirror area.

A Grand Trunk Pacific Steam Engine, which has slipped off the tracks going onto the turntable. The yard crew is trying to assess the damage, and figure out how to get it back on the tracks.

Perhaps the track itself has given way here as well?

This would be circa 1917.

This is another view of the process to bring the wayward steam engine back onto the track, circa 1917.

A large track Crane is pulling the steam engine back onto the track.

Crane is on the left, Mirror's Roundhouse is in the background in the middle, and the steam engine is on the right.

No information is known about the people in the photo.
