Teaching French with Books from the Forest & Ouimet Series
I taught first grade. At the time, we used books from the Forest & Ouimet series to teach pupils to read words and syllables. For example, for the letter "b", there was ba, be, bi, bo, bu. These books also contained very simple sentences. With this method, words were not learned as entities as they are now with the new methods. The method we used gave good results, even if the pupils were not all at the same level. I recall something that happened in one of my classes. There were thirty pupils, and everyone had to read the same sentence, one after another. The Forest & Ouimet reader contained the following sentence for learning the syllables cle and cla : Où est la clé de la classe? So the thirty pupils had to repeat the sentence. One of them had problems with reading. Instead of reading the sentence, she repeated it from memory like this: "Où qualé la clé de la classe?".

English:
my Favourite Subject at CMI
At CMI the subject I liked best was English, maybe because of the teachers. Our teachers were really special – they were fabulous, and our English improved a lot during the secondary school years. It was my favourite subject.

Greek and Latin Courses
I enjoyed learning Greek and Latin because these languages give you a more logical understanding of French. Learning Greek and Latin roots made us better able to figure out the meaning of words that were new or difficult.
