Emotions run highest around the fate of the barns. Built in the 1920's, and immaculately cared for during the heyday of the farm (1924-1942), and by a new owner (J. S. Norris and his son Herbert) with a new herd (mixed shorthorn-Angus-Highland) under a new name (Norfolk Farm). That herd too was dispersed. The barns have been deteriorating since they now serve no practical function. Despite the determined efforts of members of the Hudson Historical Society (notably Edward Berry and Pat McCaffrey), the goodwill of John Norris, the current owner, who is willing to give them to anyone who can preserve them, and of Matthew, son of Gerald Van Baal, the farm manager hired by Norfolk Farms, who has volunteered to work on restoration free, the barns may be doomed. What we lack is someone with the managerial skills to convert all this goodwill into action - someone like T(homas) B(assett) Macaulay!
