Santa's gifts and "goodie-bags" were usually financed in one of two ways or a combination of both. The board often allocated money to see that each child got a gift and a bag which included nuts and/or fruit. Also the children, through their Red Cross meetings or some other fund-raising activity, would work toward a Christmas fund that often provided something for all the children present - not just the school age students.

"Two of the entertainment highlights of the years were the Christmas concert put on by the teacher and pupils and the annual picnic put on by the Homemaker's Club. At the picnic there were all kinds of races for young and old: foot races, sack races, three-legged races, and potato races. There was always a horseshoe throwing contest and ball games. There was a booth for buying candy, gum and ice cream and, of course, a picnic lunch with lots to eat."

"They were good years. We enjoyed all the parties: Hallowe'en, Christmas, Valentines; celebrated November 11; honoured our country, king and later the queen, and our flag. We worked and played hard. Clapton produced many, many good students who went on to do well. It was a great place to go to school. Our young people today have no idea what they missed. We had the best."
