Many students praise the activities that were a part of the Junior Red Cross. Students elected their own executive, handled money, conducted meetings and planned for school events as part of their training.

"We [sisters] remember being in the small desks on the west side of the school and dreaming of the day when we'd be one of the 'big kids' and get to sit beside the windows. We also remember listening to what was going on in the upper grades. We especially remember listening to 'Jean Val Jean' so by the time we were in grade 8 the book was almost committed to memory."
