The oldest part of "Greenwood" is thought to have been one of the very first solid structures raised on this side of the river. Today it is presumed to be the oldest building in the Vaudreuil Seigneury and perhaps the only one surviving from the French Regime.

Tradition has it that it was the home of an early settler (a censitaire) called Jean-Baptiste Sabourin, a captain of the militia, a member of a family of "voyageurs" who traded with the Amerindians along the river. The property was sold to one of Phoebe's ancestral families the Delesderniers, Huguenots who farmed here and also traded with Amerindians and new settlers.

The history of Greenwood and the region was also that of Phoebe's very own family. Fascinated by it, she left us her notes and writings on those subjects and much more in her archives.
