Hon. J.A. Winter, Member for Burin East, 1930
Extract from the Newfoundland Quarterly vol 29, 1930 p. 23

Mr. and Mrs. James Alexander Winter states that the response to her appeal for bedding and clothes to relieve the immdeiate necessities has been not only generous but quite extraordinary.

A full railway carload containing ten tons of clothing went forward by train to Burin, Nov. 28 as a result of the extrordinarily generous response of the public to the appeal launched by Mrs. Winter, wife of J.A. Winter, Member for Burin East.

Mr. H.J.Russell, manager of the Newfoundland Railway, intimates that the Railway Commission had directed that all shipments to the affected areas via mail or steamer would be carried free of cost.
