Anxious to get back on the water again Fred took a short trip with the Nakusp Dramatic Club. Dave Bulger, owner of the little yacht, Minerva, provided her for the excursion to Demars. Engaging a fireman and navigator they took off from Nakusp, two rowboats in tow, in case of emergency. Typical for the times, everyone was immaculately dressed, lunch baskets placed on board and an Edison gramophone positioned to entertain the folks with music.

The Minerva was just one of several powered crafts that graced the town's waterfront. Mainly used for pleasure, the occasional race took place with each owner looking for bragging rights in a flotilla that included Minerva, Pioneer, Mohawk, and others.
