This costume, worn by every generation of Les Sortilèges's dancers, will become a true emblem for the troupe.
It will also travel allover the world with the 22 dolls dressed by Mrs. Line Desjardins to represent Canada and its regions. This expert doll maker initiated our dancers, and sometimes even their mothers, in the art of doll making; their creations being then offered as presents at cultural and community events.

International Inspirations
As the amateur troupe develops its repertoire and wardrobe, it also multiplies its performances in Canada and abroad, presenting Canadian, Ukrainian, Polish, Lithuanian, German, Jewish, Israeli, English and Celtic folk dances.
Among the international performances having taken place during those amateur years, a major project starts taking shape in 1973: the troupe's participation to the Haifa Festival in Israel. They had already given several performances in France in 1969, at the Confolens and Nancy festivals. In 1971, they had danced in Normandy but, this time, dance is taking them much further away, as 46 dancers will be traveling from Montréal to Haifa. This is an extremely ambitious project for the young troupe and, in spite of complicated planning issues, it will turn out to be a real success for Les Sortilèges. The public will show great appreciation for Canadian folklore and, particularly for the "Danse des Balais" and the "Danse des P'tits Chars".
But in spite of the audience's enthusiastic reception and of an invitation to participate again in the festival, a lack of funds will unfortunately prevent them from doing so.
Still, Les Sortilèges having been acclaimed and noticed on an international stage will, in the years to come, see the doors of many other great festivals open to them.
