Some costumes have a particular history: the Mexican costumes from Michoacán (Danza de los Viejitos) and Jalisco (male costume) are among those. These authentic pieces had been purchased by chance, a few years before the International Cervantino Festival tour in 1986, when the director of the troupe found them somewhere in the very heart of Mexico, in a small very well-patronized shop specializing in folk costumes.

In 1992, Theodor Vasilescu (a choreographer who created several pieces for Les Sortilèges) directs "Parc Sohmer", whose choreography was conceived as an homage to Montreal popular urban culture of late 19th and early 20th century. Along with dances, circus elements were integrated to the piece. The costumes, made in Les Sortilèges' workshop, emphasized the cultural diversity present in that park, dedicated to recreation and entertainment until its pavilion was destroyed by fire in 1919.

Classes and Intervenors

From the time they danced as amateurs, Les Sortilèges had been offering folk dancing classes to people interested in being initiated to that art. Several dancers taught or led cultural workshops.
