The year is 1865, I made a visit to Windsor, Canada and to the Islands of Lake Erie with my good friend and relation D.J. Williams and Thomas S. Williams and we made an arrangement to buy a place and partnership on Point Pelee Island, Lake Erie, in Canada waters and go into the cultivation of grapes and wine making.
In October of that year, I came to Pelee Island to get ready for planting grapes the next spring.
The following year in 1886, with wife and two children, I came to Pelee Island and spent the summer here but returned to Kentucky for the winter.
Finally in 1868, we finished the stone house and wine cellar and we remained on the Island from thence and making it my home.
